Featuring
Antiques, Antique Lighting & Decorative Accessories
Penny
Farthing Antiques is owned and operated by Lesley Clark, who started
the business some 25 years ago in South Africa, where she specialized
in Antique Lighting, formal English, American, and French furniture
together with decorative accessories including Fire Screens, Brass
Andirons, and Fenders. She also keeps a variety of fine quality
porcelain, silver, Majolica, antique clocks, museum quality Minton,
dog antiques, mirrors, and paintings.
In
1999 Lesley and husband John relocated with their youngest daughter
Shelley and husband Bryan Chadwick to Leesburg, Virginia.
Penny
Farthing Antiques opened in Market Station in 1998, but some 6
months after the family's permanent arrival in the US they outgrew
the premises.
The
business expanded in September 1999 into the Middleburg Antique
Emporium in Middleburg, Virginia, where Lesley and husband John
joined forces with Roger and Susie Mason (of the Leesburg Antique
Emporium).
Lesley
and daughter Shelley are in the store themselves 3-4 days a week,
and will be happy to assist you in finding that special piece
of furniture or decorative accessory for your home.
They
have spent many years working closely with interior designers
to ensure satisfaction of their clients and were exhibitors at
the first International Decorex exhibition held in Johannesburg,
South Africa.
This
exhibition has now expanded to the United States and is held once
a year in New York. In the US they exhibit at all of the shows
managed by Dordy Fontinel.
Unique
Personal Service
Lesley
will be happy to work with your interior designer to accessorize
your home with antiques, whether you are just starting an antique
collection or adding to an existing one. She will assist in making
specialised purchases of antiques, high end porcelains and any
other antique accessory to compliment the theme of your home
or
work together with your interior designer to obtain the best
available at a realistic price. Lesley travels to England throughout
the
year to get the best antiques available.
"Lesley
is the person to call for special needs. She has such great taste
and seems to select just the right things for my clients. She
makes my life a lot easier with her expertise and attention to
detail."

Dear
Lesley,
It has been a pleasure to meet and work with you over the
past few years. It is obvious you enjoy your work and that you
take a great deal of pride in offering distinctive furnishings
of top quality.
Your
background in the business of "antiques" is reflected
in the professional way you handle your business. Your honesty
and knowledge are invaluable assets and you have our complete
confidence and trust. I have especially appreciated the personal
attention you've shown us as we have searched for specific items;
you have many terrific resources and because of that we've had
the opportunity to acquire some unusual and one-of-a-kind items.
The result is a great collection of furniture, clocks, porcelains
and accessories!
In addition to these accolades, you are simply a wonderful person
to know and are delightful to work with. Thank you for sharing
your time and talents with us.
---Lindy Stevens

French
polishing is done by hand the English way by John Clark, a time-consuming
process which is unfortunately a dying art. The re-leathering
and tooling of antique writing desks and surfaces, key cutting,
etc. is available. John now has a workshop in Leesburg, Virginia
where he will gladly meet with clients by appointment.
